A shawl for Tay

In this shawl, I knitted the circular panels in blackberry stitch, and crocheted a long lacy border. A thin band of pink ribbon was inserted between the centre panels and border.

I made this in Patons 4 ply white baby yarn using a 3mm hook for the border.. It was a metre in diameter and very full...

Tay still has it in her treasure box...

Greatgranddaughter in pink

Baby's rocking my pink blackberry stitch cardigan. Knitted in 4ply Patons baby wool. Such a delight to see my work on her...

Please forgive me covering her face and her name, but it's not a great world these days..

To be continued..

Occasionally I run out of wool and so I often work on another project while I wait for my yarn to be delivered.

This was the case with my lemon and white cardigan for Jessica. Again, in Patons 4 ply baby wool in my favourite pattern, blackberry stitch. It looks great in two colours as well as solid...

In the picture is a white crochet shawl for her...

What I am working on now

Currently I am crocheting a mint green and white shawl for Gregory. It is 38 inches wide and will be 30 inches long when finished. Again, it is in acrylic 8 ply yarn on a size 3.5mm hook.

I will post a picture of it when I have finished...

Tay's comfort blanket

This was made with pink minkie material bound with pink satin blanket edging. It was attached to a little teddy bear.

Tay loved it and still has it in her treasure box even though she is now 12. It went everywhere with her....

Jamie's blackberry stitch jacket

This is Jamie at one week wearing Nana's blackberry stitch jacket. Every baby including my own each had a jacket, with booties and beanie...in my favourite stitch....

I used Patons 4 ply baby wool...

Tay's cable stitch jacket

Another favourite stitch that was so easy to do. I used to make each baby a blackberry stitch jacket, booties and beanie set- it was my signature gift to each. I used Patons 4 ply baby wool.

But another one I loved to make was this one... both looked equally lush.. I think it's called Fisherman's Cable (or rib)..

Mint shawl for Liam

This crocheted baby shawl is a gorgeous mint green and white. I added a frilly edge to it, though usually I do just one round of shell stitch...

This was made with 8ply acrylic yarn on size 3.5mm hook.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I am Glenys Robyn Hicks, an Australian wife to Chris and great- grandmother to 17 and over the years I have enjoyed making gifts for my grandchildren.

With fibromyalgia it is important to find something to take my mind off pain, and I find knitting or crocheting does that to some degree. I believe it is healthy and very satisfying to be creative and I have knitted, crocheted or sewn many gifts for family and friends.

I also enjoy blogging and so I thought to create a new one, highlighting a lot of those creations, mainly to remind myself of happy hours making and giving each one.

Currently I am working on making baby shawls and jackets for my grandchildren to use for their own children when the time is right... an heirloom gift or legacy if you will.

With being 71 years of age, I obviously don't know how long I will be able to continue doing this, so I am working on them now, either giving them directly to those old enough to keep them themselves, or to their mothers to keep until the time is right.

I hope you enjoy looking at my creations... leave me a comment if you like. I will answer each one..
